Youth
Represent Camden City During the 2009 Major League Baseball
All-Star Week in St. Louis
Last
year several kids from Camden, NJ and the Overbrook section
of Philadelphia combined to represent the Philadelphia Phillies
in four exhibition games with teams from around the country.
Under
the guidance of Desmond Newbil, General Manager for the
Whitman Park Baseball Program and Rev. Chris Collings, President,
several of the under 12 year old division players were offered
an opportunity of a lifetime to travel to St. Louis with
members of the "World Champion" Phillies organization.
Assisting
Coach Desmond was Coach Luther Collins and several youth
from the Overbrook RBI program who joined in to make this
possible. Players from the Whitman Park Baseball Program
attending were Zuri Philmore-Shaw, Deron Wharton, Tyeese
Blackman, Mark Banks, Shaheim Garrett and Ramere Jenkins.
These players represented the under 12 division.
The
Whitman Park Youth Baseball program has been a shining star
in the Phillies RBI (Reviving Baseball in the Inner-city)
program. RBI has provided the kids from Whitman Park the
opportunity to gain exposure to professional baseball, colleges
and clinics. These young people have participated in several
media blitzes with Phillies players and the Phillie Phanatic.
Under the direction of Mr. Jon Joaquin Coordinator, Fan
Development Whitman Park Youth Basebal and GM, Desmond Newbil
has a wonderful work relationship with the World Champion
Phillies.
